Pyynikki Cafe and Market visit with the group

For our second group activity, we decided to make use of the free “Tampere Day” activities organised on October 4. We met up at the Pyynikki tower, where we sat inside to eat their famous doughnuts. While eating and drinking tea/coffee, we started our lesson, focusing on Spanish and German for the day. We learned the very basics of the languages, as we collectively agreed from the beginning to not focus too much on language grammar. We focused on the basic introduction phrases that anyone says when they learn a new language. My simple introduction in German would be :”Hallo, wie geht es dir? Ich bin Etty. Wie heißt du?” or “Hola, ¿cómo estás? Soy Etty. ¿Cómo te llamas?” in Spanish.

After understanding the basics of the language, we climbed up to the top of the observation tower to chill and talk for a bit, while also exchanging simple vocabulary and slang words. ‘digga’ is popular slang in Germany, which you can kind of use for anything with the contect ‘bro’, and ‘wey’ in Spanish means ‘dude’.  Eva and Inga also told us a bit more about German stereotypes and clothing, stating the stereotypical people that can be found in certain cities. They also showed examples of this stereotype in the city of Berlin.

The lesson was quite nice, with the focus being on the general languages of Spanish and German, the basic phrases, and some cultural characteristics from back home. To end the EOTO meeting, we walked a bit around the area to see a new cafe and the “Tampere Day” activities, including the Tallipiha market and horse riding activities.
