Karaoke with the girls

A spontaneous EOTO activity that we planned to do was a karaoke day.

The idea originally came up as a throwaway idea in the preliminary report, but we decided to actually do it because of the Symposium. The Symposium is an international party held every month- and after realising that we would all be there (but in different groups)- we figured it would be a nice place to meet up and sing a song together.

A simple yet very fun EOTO activity, we chose karaoke as it is a pretty big thing here in Finland, and a funny way of sharing cultures. Since we are mixed with German, Dutch, and Mexican, we wanted to choose 1 song that we all knew somehow within our own cultures (and also as the queue for karaoke took too long).

A very nostalgic ‘pop’ song for all of us was “I don’t care” by Charli XCX. It came out in 2012, but its a song of pure jumping, snging or even screaming your heart out until you are breathless and slightly deaf.
Our idea was to figure out where our cultures collided in terms of music, and try to physically express it through- karaoke. It was not a “deep” reflection, but ended up working, and with a lot of bad singing/screaming.
