15 October 2016 Amsterdam

Lyydia has always wanted to visit Amsterdam. So I took her to Amsterdam. I knew she would really like it but I didn’t knew that she would absolutly LOVE Amsterdam. I’m so happy that Lyydia liked Amsterdam so much! I think I did a good job as a tour guide.

Amsterdam was a perfect setting to do a EOTO session. Lyydia wanted to learn some sentences in Dutch which you could actually use in the city.

For example:

This is such a beautiful city –  Dit is zo’n mooie stad  – Tämä on todella kaunis kaupunki.

Can I walk here – Mag ik hier lopen  – Voinko kävellä tässä?

There’s so many bicycles –  Er zijn zoveel fietsen –  Täällä on niin paljon pyöriä.

There are so many old buildings – Er zijn zoveel oude gebouwen- Täällä on niin monta vanhaa rakennusta.

What does this cost –  Hoeveel kost dit – Mitä tämä maksaa ?

How old is amsterdam –  hoe oud is A’dam – Kuinka vanha Amsterdam on?

Can you help me –  Kunt u mij helpen – Voitteko auttaa minua?

I’m lost –  Ik verdwaald –  Olen eksyksissä

How do I buy a ticket for the tram –  Hoe koop ik een tram ticket –  Miten ostan lipun raitikkaan?

Where does this tram stop – wanneer stopt deze tram – Missä tämä raitiovaunu pysähtyy?

Do you live in amsterdam –  Woont u in A’dam- Asutko sinä Amsterdamissa?

Excuse me, can you please translate this for me – Sorry, kunt u dit voor mij vertalen – Anteeksi, voisitteko kääntää tämän minulle?

Which way do I need to go to get to ____ –  Welke kant moet ik op- Mihin suuntaan minun pitää mennä, jotta pääsisin ____

It was so much fun teaching Lyydia these sentences. And she actually used some sentences in Amsterdam! It was such a good thing to do because what better way to learn the sentences by actually using them.

I’m definitly going to try and use some sentences in Finland as well. I think they are very helpfull because you can find me in the city cenre of Tampere very often.
