Today we went on a winter walk together. We went into the city of Tampere to have a snowy walk. It snowed the last couple of days, so we thought it would be nice to walk in the winterwonder land.
During the walk we talked about all sorts of things. I am going to write about what I learned from different holidays in Germany and The Netherlands.
We taught them that in The Netherlands we have ‘Sinterklaas’. It’s on the 5th of December. Sinterklaas gives the children presents if they were nice all year. The children sing all kinds of songs to get presents in their shoe!
They told us that in Germany they had something similar. In Germany they have ‘Nikolaus’ which is on the 6thof December. Children place their shoe in front of the door and Nicholas brings them presents. So, when the children wake up, they have a present in their shoe. I did not expect that other countries had something so similar.
In Germany they have Advent. It’s like a thing with four candles. And every Sunday in Advent they lit another candle. We don’t have something like this. Maybe in some families it is a tradition, but I had never heard of this.
In The Netherlands we have this thing called ‘Koningsdag’ on the 27th of April. It’s a celebration of the king. Actually, it is just another excuse to party, but it is to ‘celebrate the king’. Everybody wears orange outside. Some people will go party all day, because there are many festivals happening that day. Other people like it quieter and will sell their old stuff on a kingsday market.
This was our last official ‘blog-meeting’, it was very fun to hang out with everyone and learn so much about Germany. I also liked teaching about The Netherlands.
