Blog 8 - learning in the grocery shop

LIDL

Today, the 9th of November, we had the idea to learn vegetables and fruit from the supermarket. So we met outside of the supermarket and went in together. We started at the vegetables and fruit part of the supermarket and decided to learn each other some words in our language. We learnt the following words:

English                 Dutch                   German
Banana                Banaan                Banane
Apple                   Appel                   Apfel
Mandarin           Mandarijn           Mandarine
Pear                     Peer                     Birne
Zucchini               Courgette            Zucchini
Leeks                   Prei                       Launch
Eggplant              Aubergine           Aubergine

We found out only the words pear and zucchini were really different of the words we learnt each other. After our round of learning words we walked further in the supermarket, I did some groceries I needed at home. During doing the groceries we came on the subject of the prices of the groceries. In the Netherlands we had a lot of inflation last years. It also happened in Germany, some of the products are twice as expensive as they were before.

We also found out we both have an Aldi and Lidl in our country, those are for both the most cheapest supermarkets. The most expensive ones are in Germany the organic markets and Edeka. Penny and Rewe are in the middle price segment.
