Cafe Europa

As our last meeting was a Sunday night, no cafes were open so Pauline and I were forced to meet at Cafe Europa. Very busy! We managed to find a table though, as it was slowly getting more crowded as time went on.

Our theme this time was home. As usual, vocabulary first, organised by room. I keep forgetting to ask Pauline to send me these lists of vocab as there is so much useful stuff in there! I don’t want to forget everything in a few weeks just because I have nothing to reference. The video, this time was quite interesting: a television show called “Ma maison est la plus originale en France” – ‘My house is the most original in France’. It was all about a man who’d built his house entirely out of recycled materials. It was very difficult for me to understand the whole thing, not because of the accents, but because of the speed of speech. They all spoke extremely quickly! I could only catch a few words in a sentence but I think (hope) I got the general meaning of the video. Then we had TENSES (!). It was a mix this time; I had to choose which tense fitted the sentence and then conjugate the given verb in that tense. This was quite hard as well… I was in a hurry because I had to be somewhere which didn’t help at all! But it helped me differentiate between the tenses more. I had started getting them confused…

I am very glad to have Pauline as a partner in EOTO. She’s very positive and puts in a lot of work on my behalf. If we had more time, I’m sure it wouldn’t be long until I had a good grasp of French, but it’s nearly Christmas and both of us are leaving for different things.
