This time Elisa visited us in our apartment in Lapinkaari. We planned to watch Polish movie. It was not easy to find Polish movie with English subtitles. With Joanna we chose “Bogowie” (The Gods). Polish dramatic feature film directed by Łukasz Palkowski. It is based on the life and career of Polish cardiac surgeon Zbigniew Religa, who performed the first successful heart transplant in Poland in 1987. The doctor did not give up despite many unsuccessful operations. The movie depicts the skepticism of Poles for experiments on the human body. Despite many difficulties, the doctor successfully managed successful heart transplants. The movie was difficult because contained the medical vocabulary that appeared in it, but many of them, we were able to translate for Elisa.
It was a good choice showing the Poles mentality and the difficulties that the pioneers had to face.
