Sasha and summer plans on 2nd of June

Cat had stored her bike at our apartment building for the duration of her school trip so when she got back to Tampere she came straight to pick it up. She had her boyfriend with her, whom I met for the first time. Henry was really sick so I didn’t want them to come up to our apartment. We decided to chat outside although it was a bit chilly. Cat had visited Scotland and sent me photos from there earlier in the week. I joked about her being soaked all the time but she said the rain actually wasn’t that bad. I was glad to hear she stayed dry! Cat told me the main parts of her trip in Finnish which was amazing to hear. She has clearly improved during our time together. Sasha is not a native Finn either and I encouraged him to help Cat with her Finnish as he had studied it for longer.

I ended up telling them about the farm I grew up in, and I invited them over when we’d have proper and warm summer days. We discussed the differences between the words “sikala” (piggery, pig farm), “kanala” (chicken farm, poultry farm), “navetta” (cow farm, dairy farm) and ranch. I’m still not quite sure how to differentiate a dairy farm from a ranch. I’m also wondering if any farm in Finland can be called a ranch.
