Second meeting: Playing Ice Hockey

Playing ice hockey while learning German and English

For our second meeting our group met up at the ice rink in Sammonaukio to play ice hockey. Having only learnt how to ice skate last month, this was going to be a big challenge for me however I have been very happy with my progress up until now!

The three of us met with a group of exchange students and played a match for about an hour and a half. During this time I fell more times than anyone else and learnt some new German words that I could use during the match. Verteidigung is the word for defence and schießen for shoot. As well as this, I could use some vocabulary that I learnt from our first meeting in addition to phrases I already knew, such as ‘auf der linken Seite!’ ‘On the left side!’ when looking for a pass.

This meeting was very fun and I would definitely like to try ice hockey again! I also think I am improving my German with every lesson.
