We decided to meet in a nearby park for this session. The idea was to practise vocabulary related to nature and the environment. Rajdeep taught me words like puu (tree), järvi (lake), taivas (sky), and pilvi (cloud), while I taught him the Spanish equivalents. We walked around and described what we saw, switching languages every few minutes.
I found this experience refreshing. It felt different from our indoor sessions, moving and observing nature stimulated my memory. I learned to make simple sentences in Finnish to describe the surroundings, such as “Taivas on sininen” (The sky is blue).
Something unexpected I discovered was how useful it is to anchor vocabulary to real objects. Seeing a tree while learning the word puu made it stick in my mind much faster.
The challenge today was grammar. Finnish sentence structures are quite different, and I often wanted to copy Spanish structures, which led to mistakes. Also, some compound words were difficult to pronounce. We followed our plan closely but added more descriptive sentences than we had initially planned, which was a good adjustment.
