Project report 2 by Anni Vilkko

a)  Communication practices (Team/Collaborator)

We have been communicating through whatsapp and email. We will soon have our first online meeting.

b)  Preliminary project statement

I have narrowed down my project statements to two options:

Option 1: A research of the faint line between green washing and green marketing/sustainability reporting.

This option is my first choice since it’s more inside the frames of my expertise and yet offers a little challenge. The green marketing term has yet to be further defined for the project – whether to write about green marketing or sustainability reporting. It is also a possibility to cover a bit of both, since they are much connected term- and contentwise. Theoretically this problem statement offers more material for my thesis and supports the problem statements of the members of my group.

Ideas of the contents: Define all the terms, define ”faint line”, include a case study, research differences between green washing and green marketing / sustainability reporting, research possible collision points of green washing and green marketing (why do they happen and could they be prevented and how?), review the scenario of green washing and green marketing in past, now and in future (no elaborating solutions in this part).

Option 2: How does sustainability reporting of a company X look from the outside? What can be done to enhance the situation?

To me this is an interesting yet much more complicated problem statement/ research question than the first one. This problem statement is narrowed down to one still unknown international expert company, since a general study would have been too broad. Even Though narrowed down, it still seems a bit too broad a statement and requires a lot of cowork with the chosen company. This option wouldn’t give me as much material for the thesis regarding confidentiality agreement.

Ideas of the contents: Definitions of the terms used, mapping what has been already done sustainability reporting wise in the company, situation and problem mapping, resource mapping, hands on ideating solutions through workshops, polls and discussions, theoretical instructions on how to start working on and integrating the solutions inside the company.

c)  Challenges at this point

In general the biggest challenges at this point are finding suitable meeting times, rather plenty and vague instructions that arise questions and complicate working.
