Christmas Market!

Tenth Meeting – Final Reflection at the Christmas Market (10th of December)

The final Each One Teach One meeting took place on the 10th of December at a Christmas market. This meeting served as both a language-learning session and a moment of reflection, allowing us to look back on our shared experiences throughout the course.

During this meeting, we talked about how Christmas is celebrated in different families and cultures. We also discussed New Year’s resolutions and our plans for returning to our home countries. These conversations encouraged deeper reflection and the use of more complex language, as we shared personal thoughts, goals, and expectations for the future.

I explained that in my culture, Christmas is not celebrated as an official holiday due to religious reasons. However, this does not mean that the time is without meaning. Instead, families usually gather together to spend quality time, talk about the past year, reflect on personal and professional experiences, and discuss plans and goals for the upcoming year. This explanation led to an open and respectful discussion about how traditions and beliefs shape celebrations differently across cultures.

Listening to how others celebrate Christmas and plan their future helped me understand the diversity of cultural practices more deeply. Language once again acted as a bridge that allowed us to express values, beliefs, and personal experiences. English supported the conversation when necessary, while key ideas were also practiced in Spanish and Persian.

In reflection, this final meeting highlighted the true purpose of the Each One Teach One project. Beyond language learning, it created a space for cultural understanding, respect, and meaningful connection. Looking back, I can see clear progress in my language confidence, communication skills, and cultural awareness. This project demonstrated that learning a language is also about learning people, traditions, and shared human experiences.
