Fifth Meeting at Tamko (4th of November)

The fifth Each One Teach One meeting took place on the 4th of November at Tamko. This meeting focused less on specific vocabulary and more on cultural exchange, allowing us to explore traditions and customs from both Tajikistan and Spain in a conversational setting.

During this session, we discussed cultural traditions, with particular attention to weddings and family celebrations. I shared information about wedding traditions in Tajikistan, including customs, values, and the importance of family and community. In return, I learned about Spanish wedding traditions and cultural practices, which allowed us to compare similarities and differences between the two cultures.

This discussion helped me understand how deeply culture is connected to language. Many traditions are difficult to explain without storytelling, which encouraged us to use descriptive language and ask follow-up questions. English was often used to support explanations, but we also practiced key cultural terms in both Persian and Spanish.

One challenge during this meeting was expressing complex cultural ideas accurately, especially when specific traditions did not have direct translations. However, this challenge encouraged patience and active listening. The open and respectful atmosphere made it easier to discuss sensitive and meaningful topics.

In reflection, this meeting emphasized the importance of cultural understanding in language learning. Learning about traditions and weddings provided insight into values, social structures, and shared beliefs. This session strengthened not only my language skills but also my appreciation for cultural diversity and mutual respect.
