The eighth Each One Teach One meeting took place on the 4th of December during lunch at TOAS. Sharing a meal created a natural and comfortable environment for conversation, making language learning feel practical and enjoyable.
The main focus of this meeting was talking about food and favorite snacks. We discussed different types of meals, snacks, and personal food preferences. I practiced expressing my favorite foods in Spanish, while the Spanish participants practiced the same topics in Persian. Talking about food allowed us to use descriptive language and learn new vocabulary related to taste and daily eating habits.
This meeting also encouraged cultural exchange, as food is closely connected to tradition and lifestyle. We compared common snacks and meals from our home countries and discussed how food habits differ while living in Finland. These conversations helped deepen our understanding of each other’s cultures.
At times, describing flavors and ingredients was challenging, especially when certain foods did not have direct translations. English was used to clarify meanings when necessary. Despite this, the relaxed lunch setting helped keep the conversation flowing naturally.
In reflection, this meeting showed how shared activities like eating together can support effective language learning. Discussing favorite snacks and foods made vocabulary learning engaging and memorable, while also strengthening cultural connections through everyday experiences.
