The ninth Each One Teach One meeting took place on the 8th of December during a visit to a supermarket. This real-life setting offered a practical and interactive opportunity to learn language through everyday experiences.
The main focus of this meeting was learning the names of different foods and snacks found in the supermarket. As we walked through the aisles, we identified various products and practiced saying their names. I practiced this vocabulary in Spanish, while the Spanish participants practiced the same terms in Persian. Seeing the items directly made the learning process more concrete and effective.
This meeting highlighted the value of learning language in authentic environments. Associating words with real objects helped improve memory and pronunciation. It also encouraged spontaneous conversation and questions related to food choices, prices, and preferences.
At times, the large amount of new vocabulary was challenging, especially when trying to remember unfamiliar product names. English was occasionally used to clarify meanings and ensure understanding. Despite these challenges, the practical setting made the learning process engaging and enjoyable.
In reflection, this meeting demonstrated how everyday activities such as grocery shopping can become powerful learning experiences. Learning food-related vocabulary in a supermarket context strengthened my confidence in using language in real-life situations and reinforced the practical benefits of language exchange.
