In Tampere there are a lot of second-hand stores. I think one way to get to know Finnish culture is to see what Finnish people have in their houses. Second-hand stores are a good way to get a peak of all that junk we have been hiding in our homes sometimes even for decades. Also sometimes you might find something useful or just beautiful junk.
We walked to the city centre from school and the first place we went was Bonus – second-hand store. From there we continued to Tarina in Laukontori and another store called Radio, which is also by the Laukontori. Walking was a good way to get to know the city centre a little bit better.
We learned a bit more Finnish language, like the word kirpputori, which means second-hand store. Before, we had a bit of a problem because I used the word flea market instead of second-hand store, which obviously sounds a bit dodgy. Kirpputori is directly translated to flea market. Now I realize why she looked so worried when I was trying explain to her the concept of kirpputori.
