5th Chinese – Russian – Czech meeting

Hi everyone,

we are halfway through our the ten-times meeting. We decided that it’s time to learn something about our languages and try to remember few words. I started with Czech language and tried to explain some basic rules in Czech. I think it’s very hard language for foreigners because we have more than 200 thousands words and also we are using punctuation – for example the word “řeřicha” – it means watercress and “šťavnaťoučký” – it means very juicy. Czech language belongs to Slavic languages and this reality is reason why Czech and Russian people understand something from the another language – yes, we can speak with Evgeniia and sometimes I understand what she’s talking about. For example “brother” is very similar, in Czech it is “bratr” and in Russia it is “брать” –pronunciation is almost identical.

Here you can see few words I wrote for girls:

Next language we were talking about was Russian. For me is too hard talking about this language because my parents were forced to learn it (because of the Russian occupation of Czechoslovakia) and they hate Russian language as much as possible. That is the reason why I have never been in Russia and also why I don’t speak Russian. But now some facts Evgeniia said. Russian is one of the most widely spoken native languages in Europe and it also belongs to the Slavic group of the Indo-European language family. It has Cyrillic alphabet and here is few words which Evgeniia wrote for us.

And finally Jenny and her Chinese language. I know just few words from her langage because my mother was in China and said me basic words like “hi” and also the word “vacuum cleaner” – Xīchénqì – 吸尘器. Nearly 1.2 billion people speak some form of Chinese language. Jenny said us lot of information about dialects and types of languages in China and also showed us this pictre with some special words.
