For the seventh meeting we decided to talk about music. I wanted to translate one of my favorite songs by Korpiklaani and the girls were interested in German children songs (Backe, backe Kuchen, Alle Vögel sind schon da, Es klappert die Mühle, Ein Männlein steht im Walde, Hänschen klein, Kommt ein Vogel geflogen).
It turned out that Korpiklaani uses the old Finnish language in their lyrics which challenged the translation part a bit but we had a lot of fun nevertheless.
Iske rauta, synny rauta, (Smash iron, born iron,)
Synny kuumassa tulessa. (come to life in the hot fire.)
Iske rauta, nouse maasta, (Smash iron, rise from the ground,)
Synny povissa luonnotarten. (become alive in the bosom of maiden’s nature.)
Iske rauta, tapporauta, (Smash irons, killing iron,)
Iskemällä sinä synnyt. (by smashing you will be born.)
Iske rauta, musta rauta, (Smash iron, black iron,)
Kuuma tervan polttorauta. (hot tars searing iron.)
Iske, iske, iske, iske…. (Smash, smash, smash, smash….)
ISKE! (SMASH!)
Kolme rautaa iskekäähän, (Three irons you should smash,)
Teidät iski Ilmarinen. (you were smashed by Ilmarinen.)
Iskeäkseen nosti maasta (To be able to smash it he picked up from the earth)
Jäljistä petojen jalkain. (From the footprints of the predators.)
Iske rauta, synny rauta, (Smash iron, born iron,)
Muutu kuumassa tulessa. (change in the hot fire.)
Vanno rauta, tapporauta, (Swear iron, born iron,)
Älä koskaan omia iske. (never hurt your own.)
Iske rauta, vaskirauta, (Smash iron, brass iron,)
Iskuista teräsi saanet. (from the smash you shall get your cutting edge.)
Iske rauta niin punainen, (Smash my red iron,)
Kuuman polton poikkirauta. (the burning hot fire gave us the iron.)
Iske rauta kauniin kirkas, (Smash you iron that are beautifully bright,)
Iskuista sinäkin synnyt. (by the smash even you are born.)
Iske rauta valkehinen, (Smash my white iron,)
Teroitettu tapporauta. (tared killing iron.)
Iskuista sinäkin synnyt, (Even by smashing you are born,)
Iske, iske, (smash, smash,)
Iskuista sinäkin synnyt, (even by smashing you are born,)
Iske, iske, ISKE! (smash, smash, SMASH!)
