Hello, my name is David, I am from Spain and I am learning german in a three people group with Christina, German, and Eider, Spanish. For the first meeting we went to a café near Tampere’s city center, with good views and a quiet ambience to begin learning German and Spanish.
We started with the German teaching part of the meeting: Christina taught us some common expressions to introduce ourselves and ask for basic personal information, which, although seem difficult now will be very useful in everyday life. Some of this phrases were:
- Mein name ist David My name is David
- Ich bin aus Barcelona I am from Barcelona
- Waher kommst du? Where are you from?
Getting to know this expressions is a dynamic start of learning German, since now we can practice it in a very basic level with other exchange students. Studying them was also very useful since it lead to seeing some german language rules, such as how to make a word feminine: in the case of “student” and “studentin”, adding a final -in.
Later we went on to the Spanish teaching part. In this one, Christina translated the taught expressions into Spanish, and also the names of things in the café, such as:
- Vaso
- Bolso
- Cuchara
During this process, she remembered many other Spanish words too. It was a great way then, not only to refresh her vocabulary and grammatical constructions but also to repeat the German words we had learned.
It was amazing as well discovering that some of the German words we had heard have a different meaning in urban language, so that we were taught how to use them properly. This also awoke an interest for German as a talked language.
For the next meeting I hope, not only to keep working on what we have learned and try to comprehend it, but also to go to a different place where we can learn new words.
