Since we are both interested in parties and nice events, we were interested in what kind of parties we had in our home countries. That made the topic of our next meeting clear, which means that we talked about some nice events or party days we know from our home countries. The events Florian mentioned from Switzerland are Carnival and the 1st of August, which is the Swiss National Day.
The 1st of August is a national holiday in Switzerland where they celebrate the foundation of the Swiss Confederacy. This day is celebrated throughout the whole country with a lot of special events and organized campfires. This day is normally celebrated with the communities. Children also walk around during the evening carrying lighted paper lanterns. The way Florian actually celebrates it is by having a barbecue with family and friends, look at fireworks and drink a lot.
Then he also mentioned Carnival, which is a big happening in Switzerland. In Switzerland they call it actually ‘Fasnacht’. During this event, which is celebrated over several days, people wear customs and party all day and night long. It is a great excuse to drink alcohol and party together. People who are not from Switzerland and come here to see what is going on during Carnival probably think that Swiss people are crazy and just want to drink alcohol, but it is actually a great tradition for the Swiss inhabitants.
