Third meeting: Finland, France and Germany

Hello,

This week was a particular week because we meet twice and it was the first time with all French people.

For those meeting, we met at TOAS city. It’s not the coziest place but it was perfect to host the entire group. Moreover, this meeting was more like a class, we were sitting around a table and each one teaches some words of our own language.

We started to teach with basic words to present, say hello …. :

  • Je m’appelle (Fr) = My name is (en) = Mein name ist (Ge) = Minum nimeni on (fi)
  • Je suis âgée de 21 ans (Fr) = I am 21 (En) = Ich bin 21 Jahre Art (Ge) = Minä olen 21 vuotta vanha/vuotias (Fi)
  • Bonjour (Fr) = Hello (En) = Guten Tag (Ge) = Moi, Hei, Hyvää Païvää (Fi)
  • Je viens de France (Fr) = I’m from France (En) = Ich komme aus Frankreich (Ge) = Minä olen/tulan ranskasta (Fi)
  • Merci (Fr) = Thank you (En) = Danke  (Ge) = Kiitos (Fi)
  • S’il vous plait (Fr) = Please (En) = Bitte (Ge)
  • Désolée (Fr) = Sorry (En) = Entschuldigung (Ge) = Anteksi (Fi)

I’ve just note when I was writing this blog post that we didn’t learn how to say goodbye, so next time for sure.

Moreover, one of the most surprising stuff was that in Finnish there is no word to say “please” which was something very surprising!

We learn lot of vocabulary during this meeting and after teaching to each other we try to pronounce all the worlds we’ve just learned. No the easiest part because the accent are really different between all the languages and some letter don’t have the same pronunciation between French and German for example. In contrary, I think it’s quite easy to pronounce Finnish, because it’s for me sometimes very closed to Spanish a language I learn for a long time now.

At the end, we discuss about what we could learn during the next meeting.

Camille
