This is our first meeting, I have to be honest that we procrastinated for a while at the beginning because we met another Finnish student who was very nice and enthusiastic in TAMKO office and we did a little bit of cultural exchange.
Afterwards, we practiced the vocabularies based on what we could see in the TAMKO office, including some kitchen utensils, furniture, also the basic structure of the room such as floor, wall, and ceiling, and what we saw through the windows.
People may feel it’s a bit weird that we started with the vocabularies not the alphabets and pronunciation, the reason is that I actually have already studied Russian language on and off for a few years but I’ve never had a Russian speaking language partner to talk with so a lot of vocabularies were just in my mind and when I really met someone who speaks Russian, I would be very nervous and forget a lot of things. This practice with Yevhen is more like a memory rebuild to the language.
Yevhen also tried to talk with me mostly in Russian which trained my ears to get used to the sound of this language although I couldn’t understand him fully because of the talking speed and the lack of vocabularies in my mind, so probably I would say I can only understand him at around 40%. I think the listening skills will become sharp again after more meetings.
After the meeting, I made a list of the vocabularies and tried to make a short article with most of them, I checked the grammar with ChatGPT to make sure that I didn’t mess up with the conjugations and cases of words, it came out that I didn’t make a lot of mistakes which I feel happy about that my memory works quite well to most of the grammatic rules.
