What I learned:
We talked while cycling along Näsijärvi shore and I learned some Finnish outdoor-related phrases like:
•“Lähdetään ajamaan!” (Let’s go riding!)
•“Kaunis maisema!” (Beautiful view!)
•“Varo autoa!” (Watch out for cars!)
My partner explained that cycling is common for commuting in Finland. He also told me that wearing helmets (kypärä) is not legally required but strongly encouraged for safety.
What I taught:
I taught him how to say “자전거 타자!” (Let’s ride a bike!) and “조심해!” (Be careful!) in Korean. We also practiced describing the scenery: “단풍이 예뻐요.” (The autumn leaves are beautiful.)
Reflection:
It was a meaningful way to learn language through real experiences, not just in class. Using both Finnish and Korean while moving made vocabulary easier to remember.
