During our ESN-trip to Lapland we saw northern lights! They are just magical! Berk and I (and some of our friends) walked to a frozen lake to watch them and talked about how they form. I recently heard, that northern people (If I am not mistaken the Sami) used to believe, that the northern lights are the spirits dancing. The more one could see them, the more they were dancing. And this were not just ones ancestors but all the spirits. This would only happen when the walls between the afterlife and the earth were thin enough. This would only happen if the spirits were honoured. I think this believe is beautiful! So the northern lights moving is the spirits dancing in the afterlife. I think this is calming.

We also were watching the stars, as the sky was so clear and without light pollution. We tried identifying the different star constellations. Not as easy as I thought! I was able to identify Plough and Berk showed me what they call “the skies w” in German. Interesting and beautiful!

As temperatures were quite low, we decided to return to our cabins after about 2 hours. But on our way back we saw, that the northern lights got more intensive again and this time right above our heads! We laid down I the snow and enjoyed the aurora for another 45 minutes before we started to get “frozen”. Not feeling my toes afterwards was absolutely worth it!
