In September, Etty, Thijs, Felix and I went hiking together. We all love hiking and wanted to explore a bit of Finland. The nature was calm and beautiful, and even though summer was slowly coming to an end, the day felt very special.
During the car ride, we talked about many different topics, including the King and Queen of the Netherlands. The current king, Willem-Alexander, has been the King of the Netherlands since 2013. His wife, Queen Máxima, was born in Argentina and is very popular in the Netherlands because of her open personality and her strong engagement in social issues. It was interesting to learn more about the Dutch royal family and to hear different perspectives.
I also learned a new Dutch word that day: “schommelen,” which means “to swing” in English. Small moments like this make shared trips even more special.
In the end, we all agreed that it was a very beautiful day, full of nature, good conversations, and shared interests. A perfect hiking experience.
