In this session on November 6th 2025 we went to have a coffee session in Tamko, a small part of a building with couches where we had our coffee peacefully. We started talking about our plans for the day and the weekend, which helped us create a relaxed and comfortable environment.
The main focus was the cultural exchange. We talked about typical customs and traditions of Spain and Tajikistan, including national festivities, clothing and customs related to weddings. We compared proposals and marriage traditions, and I found it really interesting to find out, for example, that in both countries people usually get married when they are around 28 years old, even though the rituals, music and dressing styles are very different.
Another relevant topic was government functioning and social norms in each country. This allowed me to widen my knowledge and understanding of how society is organized and how certain cultural practices are formed. Sharing these experiences and analyzing them together made the conversation more interactive and entertaining than a normal class.
When reflecting about this meeting, I feel like I have more confidence when talking in English about cultural topics. I also realized that learning a new language goes beyond vocabulary> it implies understanding the cultural context and the everyday life of a different society. In general, this session was very enriching, comfortable and offered me new perspectives about spanish and tajik traditions, while I improved my speaking skill and my intercultural competence.
