Eighth Meeting at TOAS (4th December)

-

Our 8th Each One Teach One meeting was held on the 4 th of December, 2014, at TOAS, during which we had some lunch together. It was a friendly and comfortable environment that enabled free flow of conversation. We also chose to discuss our favorite snacks and foods and this is always discussed in a spirited manner.

We all explained what our favorite cuisine is in our countries. The Alijon served us with the traditional Tajik snacks, and we brought some of our Spanish classics including a tortilla de patatas, croquetas and churros. We also had a comparison of tastes and culinary practices which helped us understand how food describes the personality as well as the habits of each culture.

We have also acquired new words associated with food and meals like lunch, snack, dessert, and drink. The lesson was very humorous and allowed sharing personal experiences and jokes, thus it was easy to memorize the new words.

This meeting also reminded me of the fact that language acquisition may occur naturally when we learn about the subjects which are really interesting to us. Discussion of food created a feeling of home and how a meal can bring people together regardless of language.
