On 6 th November, we had our fifth Each One Teach One meeting at Tamko Café. We gathered there to have a pleasant afternoon coffee and keep on our cultural interaction. It was a friendly ambiance to be in and it was easy to exchange ideas because of the environment.
We discussed this time of national holidays in our countries and the way people celebrate it. Alijon informed us of the major celebrations in Tajikistan when we talked of our holiday traditions of Dia de la hispanidad, Semana santa and Las fallas in Spain. It was interesting to observe how celebrations portrayed the values, history and lifestyle of individual countries.
Another area that we talked about was wedding practices which proved to be one of the most exciting topics of the meeting. The most surprising thing was the cultural and religious variation, particularly with the rituals, music and the dressing styles of the people of a particular country differing so much with one another.
This discussion made me learn more than just vocabulary. I learned the way traditions can be used to convey identity and unity. Again, I came to understand cultural exchange is one of the most effective means of learning a language- assists us not just to associate with words only, but also with people and their experiences.
