Today Anna and I woke up very early to go take a train to Joensuu (which took around 7h!!) to watch some biathlon. My norwegian soul is full of joy and so is my german one. Both my family in Norway as my family in Germany are obsessed with biathlon so I was so full of joy to introduce Anna to this sport, as she has ever only briefly heard about it before.
Her first Norwegian word of the day was “Heia” which doesnt have a literal translation neither in German nor in English. It is a word for cheering but only used in sport/competitive situations. In Germany we say something like “los geeehts” or “hophophop”. We didnt have so much more norwegians words because we were both most focused on trying to get Anna to remember the colors of the racesuits for each nation and also to remember the most popular faces of biathlon sport.
After the race ended we went to our AirBnB which we have booked for the night and watch a hallmark chrsitmas movie with finnish subtitles to prepare us some more for our Finnish exam comming up next week. What a great last meeting!
