Second meeting at McDonald’s

Our next Each One Teach One meeting happened in a McDonald’s downtown. We wanted to keep the environment calm and relaxed so we started by going over what we had learnt last time. Between us we helped each other remember the words and sentences, and that gave us more confidence to keep practicing. We also took the opportunity to talk about our week and some personal stuff, which made the session feel more like a conversation between friends.

The main topic discussed this time was food. We talked about fruits, vegetables and traditional dishes from our countries. Andrea, Daira and I practised vocabulary and numbers in Persian related to food, while Alijon did the same but in Spanish. Whenever we need to clear something up we used English to understand each other better, just as we did in our previous meeting. Thanks to these conversations we learnt many cultural fun facts, like the fact that Tajikistan’s fruit is local and tastes more natural, or the importance of farmers markets.

During this meeting, I started noticing a slight improvement in my pronunciation, plus I felt more comfortable during the session because we knew each other better than last time.

This second meeting confirmed that learning a new language goes beyond memorizing vocabulary but it is also about sharing stories, customs and small details about everyday life. Through these meetings, not only am I improving my language skills, but im also widening my way of looking at the world and the way of interacting with people from other cultures. That to me is the most special part about this project.
