The second meeting of Each One Teach One was held at McDonald on October 7th. We had a quick review of all the things that we had learned during our last meeting by the lake before embarking on anything new. The repetition of greetings and basic phrases in Persian and Spanish made us memorize them better and become more confident in using them in the future.
Following the recap, we proceeded to another topic, which was fruits. We were taught the names of the various fruits in the languages of each other- strawberry, apple, water melon and banana. It was amusing to draw parallels in pronunciation and understand the fact that some words sounded absolutely different and others were somehow similar.
During our drinking time we also exchanged common practices and celebrations in our countries. Alijon informed us about the traditions of celebrations in Tajikistan and we talked about Spanish celebrations such as Las Fallas and Semana Santa. I had to see the impact of culture on celebrations and expression of happiness. The session was pleasant and easy going.
I have realized that I was able to recall more words and talk more fluently. I also understood that learning is more free in the situation when it is related to personal accounts and cultural interaction. Again, I was encouraged to continue getting better.
