TAMPERE CHRISTMAS MARKET 3/12

For our tenth and final meeting, we visited the Tampere Christmas Market, a place full of lights and traditional holiday decorations. We strolled slowly through the small wooden stalls, admired the handmade crafts, and soaked in the cozy winter atmosphere. To wrap up our learning project, we decided once again to speak English throughout the entire meeting.

During this final session, we continued practicing English in a natural and relaxed context. Walking through the Christmas market provided us with plenty of topics to discuss, such as traditional Finnish crafts, Christmas food, decorations, and the differences between Christmas markets in Finland and Spain.

Drinking hot chocolate together also gave us a chance to sit down and have longer conversations in English. I felt much more fluent and confident than I did at the beginning of the course. This meeting allowed me to clearly see the progress I’ve made—speaking for long periods without switching languages, expressing opinions spontaneously, and holding conversations even in a crowded, noisy environment.

This session felt like a calm and enjoyable way to close our learning journey. The Christmas market created a warm and festive atmosphere that encouraged reflection. As we walked, we talked about how our English had improved, the cultural things we had learned from each other, and the funniest or most memorable moments from our meetings.

At first, we sometimes struggled to maintain English consistently, but now it felt comfortable and almost automatic. The peaceful surroundings also helped me appreciate how much cultural learning we accomplished, not just about Finland but also about our own Spanish regions.

Because we were outdoors and the market was busy, it was sometimes hard to hear everything clearly, which made communication a bit challenging. We also didn’t practice any French in this session, as English felt like the most natural choice for the occasion. Aside from that, the meeting went smoothly and achieved its goal.

This meeting perfectly aligned with our main objective of improving our English fluency through real-life conversation. It also deeply connected with the cultural aspect of our project. The Christmas market provided numerous opportunities to compare traditions, talk about our own cultural celebrations, and reflect on how holidays differ between Spain and Finland.
