The third Each One Teach One session was held on the 27th of October at our student residence, and at our usual Spanish coffee time. We would like to tell Alijon about this small yet significant tradition since it is one of the nonchalant and not formal moments of talking in our culture.

During the coffee session, we reformulated all the things we had learned during the previous meetings, namely- greetings, fruits, and simple expressions. This was a good chance to review our progress and to revise some of the words we had forgotten.

The next thing, following the recap, was to learn the names of various rooms in the house, e.g., kitchen, bathroom, dining room, and bedroom. We also applied vocabulary in case of close family members, such as grandparents, parents, siblings, uncles, and cousins. Comparing the use of these words in Persian and Spanish, it was interesting to observe the similarities in the culture in terms of family life.

The chatting was quite natural and pleasant. Having a real home setting also facilitated better association of the words with real things and situations. I came to understand once again how effective learning can be done in day to day situations and how language and culture are always connected in some meaningful sense.
