On 2-4 June 2025, Pluralist Mikhail Mikhailov, Professor in Translation Studies, participated in an international congress of Slavists that took place at the University of Granada.

The 6th International Conference GranaSlavic 2025 marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Slavistics at the University of Granada.

The three-day conference included 54 parallel sessions, plenary talks, and a rich cultural programme.

The keynote speakers were Prof. Sarah Lemmen, Coordinator of the Spanish Network for Research on Central and Eastern Europe; Professor of Slavic Philology Enrique F. Quero Gervilla; Prof. Ruslan Mitkov; and author Mikhail Shishkin.

Ruslan Mitkov, Professor of Computing and Communications at Lancaster University and Distinguished Professor at University of Alicante, gave a keynote lecture on the challenges of AI.

Mikhail Shishkin, winner of multiple international literary prizes and awards, presented his essay work at the opening session of the conference.

The congress was truly multidisciplinary with presentations on linguistics, literature, cultural studies, and history.

The participants represented various countries: Spain, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Serbia, Greece, Russia. Two participants represented Finnish universities: Professor Mikhailov from Tampere University and Tamara Budanova from University of Turku.

The conference presentations were held in Spanish, Russian, Polish, Serbian and sometimes in English. Professor Mikhailov presented his talk in Spanish.
Simultaneous interpreting was provided (from Russian to English and Spanish, from Spanish into English and Russian), with the students of the department working as interpreters.
The conference participants were also offered an engaging cultural programme which included a walking tour in Albaicín, a night tour around Alhambra palaces, and a music concert (see photos below).

We are delighted about our fellow pluralist having participated in an academic event of such a high scale and broad scope, and we are thankful to Professor Mikhailov for putting Plural on the map of Spanish Slavistica.
