Prof Daria Dayter represents Plural at corpus linguistics conference in Vilnius

On 17-21 June 2025, Head of Plural Research Centre, Prof Daria Dayter, attended the 46th ICAME (International Computer Archive of Modern and Medieval English) conference in Lithuania.

Hosted by the Faculty of Philology at Vilnius University, the ICAME46 conference ran under the title ‘Per Corpora ad Astra: Exploring the Past, Mapping the Future.’

The conference brought together researchers from 19 countries working in the field of corpus linguistics. The keynote speakers included Prof Sebastian Hoffmann (Universität Trier), Prof Rosa Lorés (Universidad de Zaragoza), Prof Rūta Petrauskaitė (Vytautas Magnus University), and Dr Lukas Sönning (Universität Bamberg).

Prof Dayter presented her individual paper on “Language and space exploration: Talking the future of humanity,”, and with Thomas Messerli from the University of Basel – a talk on “Explicit and implicit evaluations in comments on the subreddit Change My View.”

The panels included pre-conference workshops, software demonstrations, and presentations of full papers and work-in-progress reports.

The conference programme also offered a walking tour of Vilnius Old Town, a welcome reception, a boat trip around Trakai Island Castle, and a conference dinner with a disco at the iconic 1960s-style “Neringa” restaurant.

We are delighted that the head of our research centre had the opportunity to promote the corpus linguistics research conducted at Tampere University among the leading specialists in the field.
