Project Report 2 by Qi Ning

a) Communication Practices

Despite our commitment to the project, progress has been hindered by the unavailability of our collaborator, who is currently on vacation. Unfortunately, this has impeded our ability to conduct face-to-face meetings and discuss key aspects of the project. So unfortunately, we have no progress with the collaborator yet, still waiting for the meeting confirmation from him.

b) Preliminary Project Statement

My preliminary project statement is about exploring the intersection of sustainability, inclusivity, and audience experience in digital events. I aim to investigate how digital events contribute to reducing carbon emissions compared to physical gatherings and how they enhance inclusivity by reaching a diverse and global audience without compromising too much quality experience.

My focus on sustainability will involve examining the environmental impact of digital events and their potential to serve as eco-friendly alternatives. Inclusivity will be explored through the lens of audience diversity, breaking down geographical and physical barriers to foster a sense of global community.

My preliminary project statement outlines the intention to conduct in-depth research on specific case studies, such as Pentulive, Roblox’s Linnan juhlat, UMK, and the Eurovision Song Contest. Through these cases, I plan to analyze audience experiences and perceptions in digital events and compare them to traditional physical participation. I also did some literature research the results are quite rare, will focus on this for the moment!

c) Challenges at This Point

At this stage, the project faces several challenges. The primary challenge lies in the lack of clarity regarding the direction of the research. Without our collaborator’s input and insights, we find ourselves navigating uncertainties about the project’s scope, methodology, and specific research questions.
Additionally, coordinating time with different team members has proven to be challenging. We all need to be a functional facilitator for the project and taking our own responsibility.
