My Experiences as a New International Student on Hervanta Campus

My name is Atiqa and I am a master’s degree student at Tampere University. Since my high school year, studying in Europe has always been my dream. I'm a student of computer science and most of my classes are held on Hervanta campus.

New students were welcomed this year with an orientation week that made things all simpler to understand. It helped me incorporate and link into the university environment. I had the chance to meet new friends and learn about events on the campus, and the student tutors were pleasant and friendly.

The week began in the campus front lawn with a simple orientation. We got a brief tour of the campus to get to know the campus. Our academic coordinator helped me review my personal study plan during Orientation Week. This helps you to pursue your studies systematically!

There were several other events followed during the orientation week, including a scavenger hunt and an ice-breaking sauna.

I live in a TOAS flat just next to the campus. It is a one-room apartment with a kitchen, a living room, and a balcony with a great view. The living environment is peaceful, and all of this made adapting to a new environment simpler for me.

Because of the peace, harmony, and elegance, I love the Hervanta campus. A positive thing about the campus is that the campus buildings are interconnected, so in winter it is easier to move in the university without going outside. Bus stops in each direction are located in front of the university. Many restaurants in the university offer good and cost-friendly student meals.

The library is another positive thing on the campus! The serene and well-organized atmosphere is fantastic. You can loan a book by merely just scanning the barcode. It is very easy, as the library has its own website so that the loan is renewable electronically.

A big technology centre is just a few minutes away from the Hervanta campus and the surrounding city. It allows for collaboration and development between scholars, students and companies in technology development and research.

Tampere University gives its students state-of-the-art facilities. You are inspired to evolve continuously! This blog just illustrates my experience on Hervanta campus as a new international student. I’m sure much more is yet to be discovered and taught!
