Chinese - Russian. Second meeting.

Where to start? What to learn? Learning a new language can be tricky but Zichen broke it for me! Today we met at TAMK to teach and learn some basics.

Learning a new language can be like a thrilling adventure, and today, I dived into the fascinating world of Chinese pronunciation with my language partner, Zichen. Our session was all about the basics, starting from the very beginning, and it turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable experience.

We kicked off by getting serious about Chinese characters, practicing them repeatedly. Zichen, being a language wizard, also showed me the ropes of Chinese pronunciation, and together, we practiced a bunch. She also recorded her voice for me to practice the alphabet at home!

We had a chat about something interesting—is it super crucial to differentiate the tones in Chinese pronunciation, especially if you’re not a native speaker? I assumed that it’s important to get those tones right for better communication. However, Ziched calmed me down by highlighting that even with the wrong tones, I can still be understood by the native speaker.

Besides, Zichen helped me to practice writing strokes, which was also a challenging thing to do for me. However, perfection comes with more practice! She recommended keep writing the strokes and trying to combine simple words.

Reflecting on today’s lesson, I feel lucky to have Zichen as my language guide. She makes learning feel less like a task and more like a fun journey. Navigating the twists and turns of Chinese pronunciation and strokes, I’ve learned that making mistakes is okay, and each one is a step closer to getting it right.

From my side, I introduced Zichen to Russian culture and showed her some interesting content about the basics of the language, interesting places to visit and some more.
