For the 4th meetup we watched a oscar winning anime film from the famous studio ghibli. The movie was called princess mononoke and some members of the group had never seen it before and were excited to have the chance. The concept behind the film is the story of a cursed young warrior who is banished from his hometown and meets a young girl who has been raised by wolves. But this is only the surface. Subliminally it is a story of Nature vs Man and the disharmony between them. Many Japanese films have nature as a key theme and it is little wonder – 68% of Japan consists of forestry, and I was told that Japanese citizens cherish and value nature and believe spirits and guardians protect the forest.
Overall, it was fantastic and everybody loved it.
