Polski – Niemiecki fifth lesson

Cześć!

The fifth meeting of Fryderyk and me was a fairly short meeting, compared to the last ones. We took a walk on a trail and talked more about the culture in both of our countries than about the language itself. We also covered some basic knowledge about Poland and Germany. To be honest, even though Germany and Poland are neighbors, I didn’t know that much about Poland, for example I wasn’t sure about where exactly Poland shares a boarder with which country (my knowledge of geography is more or less non-existent). In my opinion, such basic knowledge about a country is essential in order to fit in with society.

Of course, we discussed how the countries are called in both languages and therefore had a bit of language learning in our meeting as well. For example, Germany is called Niemcy in Polish, which surprisingly has a completely different root than the names for Germany in most other European languages (Except for some Slavic languages). Also, we talked about the geographic directions.

I think learning while walking makes it easier to learn something by heart. You are more concentrated than when you sit for hours in front of your desk and of course the fresh air helps you, too:) So I am confident that we will both remember what we have learned quite well (at least compared to our otherwise rather holey memory ;))
