This week we met at a Lidl in Hervantakeskus. Yevhen started to introduce the products we often see in supermarkets, we started from vegetables and fruits, I tried to point out each of the commodities that I know in Russian, to refresh my memories about the vocabularies.
I was happy that I still remember some. And Yevhen reminded me about the ones that I have forgotten. During his explanation, I found out there are several words in common with Finnish which was pretty surprising because I thought there might not be any similarities between these two languages. This time, I also learned quite a lot of new vocabularies.
Because Yevhen is from Ukraine, he’s fluent in both Russian and Ukrainian, so he also taught me the differences of vocabularies in the two languages. My home university is in Poland so I know a little bit of Polish as well, I happily found out that Ukrainian and Polish are more similar than I thought. We talked about many cultural differences or similarities between the countries where we’re from and lived. It’s very interesting to explore different cultures together.
Below are the notes that I took after coming back to my apartment, it’s great to see the progress!
