Last Meet-Up

As Christoph was leaving Finland in the week before Christmas, we decided to have a small farewell evening on the Monday before. It was our last Each One Teach One meeting, and although the atmosphere was calm and pleasant, we were also aware that we probably would not see each other again for a longer time.

I baked cinnamon rolls and prepared ginger tea (zázvorový čaj). Laura brought some chips, and together it felt like the right combination for a quiet winter evening. We sat around the table, took our time, and simply enjoyed being together without any plan or pressure.

Most of the evening was spent talking. We reflected on our Erasmus experience — what we enjoyed the most, what we would maybe do cinnamon rolls, and what we would miss after leaving Finland. We talked about moments we were grateful for and also about things we regretted not doing more of. Language learning stayed a bit in the background this time, as the focus was more on conversation and sharing thoughts.

Still, I picked up a few new German words during the evening, such as Erinnerungen (memories), Abschied (farewell), dankbar (grateful), and vermissen (to miss). We also naturally used a few Czech words like sbohem (goodbye).

The evening felt like a natural ending to our meetings — not dramatic, just honest and calm. It was a nice way to close our Each One Teach One journey and say goodbye before Christoph’s departure.
