Since it finally started snowing again in Tampere on Sunday afternoon, but the weather forecast unfortunately didn’t look very promising and predicted warmer, rainy weather for the next day, we wanted to take the opportunity right away and go for a late-night walk together.
It was a very beautiful, calm, and relaxing atmosphere to stroll through quiet and empty Tampere—completely different from how the city feels during the day.
We talked about the Finnish winter, from which we had all expected a bit more of a typical winter feeling with more snow, and also about the winters in our home countries. We noticed that winter in the Czech Republic and Germany is quite similar – both in rural areas and in cities.
Christoph said that he really enjoys skiing in the winter time, while Lenka and I prefer cozy snow walks that can easily end in a snowball fight.
And that’s exactly what happened—we all ended up with a nice load of snow in our faces
We continued walking and kept talking about the Finnish winter. We all agreed that despite the long darkness, the Finnish winter doesn’t feel too gloomy for us, because there are so many things to experience and it’s easy to make things feel cozy.
In the meantime, there was also a bit of Czech vocabulary training for Christoph and me:
winter – zima
night – noc
walk – procházka
evening – večer
sníh, which I had already learned last time and could use again right away.
