I was lucky to spend my exchange year studying music in Leipzig, which is known for the many famous musicians over the centuries. A year in a traditional music (and football) city, where J. S. Bach worked for many years and where F. Mendelssohn got the idea to found a Conservatoire of music, was full of new experiences. I was one of the thousands students who got into the music school and who was able to study for a year there with great professors and musicians.
My normal days were full of music. I used to practice in the morning, then have lunch with friends and usually in the afternoon I had some lessons or rehearsals with other musicians. I really lived my dream life.

I made many new friendships with people all over the world and after the exchange, I am still in contact with them. And I know that I will stay in touch with them for the rest of my life.
Even though all my friends and I were really music nerds, and we wanted (and we had to) practice a lot, we still didn’t forget the spare time. After someone’s concert, countless times we went to have dinner together and have fun, sometimes we spent a day at a beach or just hung around in the town. I also attended some sport courses during the year, which I don’t regret. Doing some exercise is always a good way to get in a better mood and forget about all the stressful things.
In Finland, I study in a quite small department of the university, at least if I compare it to the university I studied in Leipzig. Always when I went to the university in Leipzig, I found a friend or someone to talk with. That was something I am going to miss in Finland. I do have friends also in Finland, but usually they are not at the university at the same time as I.
All in all, I can’t be happier with my choice of the city or the decision to spend a year away. The year was really the best year of mine.
