Hej from Uppsala

My everyday view

This blog is about my experience in Uppsala for my practical training

My internship at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) has been such a great experience. I’ve been involved in fieldwork and lab work, from collecting sediment samples in lakes to analyzing them back at the lab. It has been really interesting to see how theory from my environmental engineering studies connects with real research in practice.

Outside of studies, I’ve loved exploring Uppsala and its surroundings. The city is calm and beautiful, and the landscapes with lakes, forests, and open fields are amazing. I spend my free time biking around, enjoying fika with friends, and just experiencing the Swedish way of slowing down and appreciating nature.

When I compare Sweden with Finland, I notice that both cultures value independence, but Sweden feels a bit more collaborative. The fika breaks are also something really special here, they bring people together in a relaxed way that I’ve really enjoyed.

Overall, Uppsala has been a wonderful place to learn, live, and experience something new. I’d recommend it to any student looking for both professional growth and a chance to enjoy Sweden’s unique culture and nature.
