From Finland to the Emirates

I came to the UAE( Dubai) to do my first internship for my International Business degree for almost three months. I was a bit hesitant at first, but I gave it a shot so that I could get some real-world working experience during my summer holidays. I joined a textile and trading company that distributes machines and textile-related operations. My role mostly included meetings and discussions with clients and staff on various continents, meeting with them, assisting in overall business operations, etc. Here’s how it went.

From day one, it was an amazing experience, even though sometimes continuous meetings made me overwhelmed. It was also a great opportunity for me to learn about how the textile industry works, how a single cloth is made, and what processes it goes through to end up being that lovely clothing at the end. Not to mention, the different people I came across and was able to meet and talk, and share interesting facts about themselves and their cultures and working styles.

In my free time, I went out on trying different cuisines from all over the world. I also went to different malls and shops, cafes etc. The cities were really interesting and was filled with a lot of fun activities for us to try. From transport to culture, I learnt a lot about them, got locals insights, which I wish I could’ve had more but as it was a short time. For me to compare the working culture in Finland is not possible as I have not been able to work in Finland as of yet, but the diverse environment of people and ethics, was eye opening.
