I study for a Bachelor of Business Administration and my major is law. I came here to study at Hochschule München. I was positively surprised to find that they also offer EU law courses. The group sizes in most courses were small (around 10 people), which was nice because the teaching felt more personal and it was easier to ask questions. I feel that studying in English has not been as hard as I first thought. I have been able to improve my language skills because in many courses we need to give presentations or at least participate in lectures. The teachers here have been very qualified and I feel that I have learned a lot.
In my spare time, I have tried to create normal routines like going to the gym and cooking at home. Because of that life has been quite similar to my life in Finland. Of course I have also met many new people here and we often hang out together. We have enjoyed going to restaurants, bars, and cafes frequently. It has been wonderful to explore a new city. I have made lifelong friendships and experienced new cultures. I have been able to travel more because the location is middle of the Europe and therefore traveling neighbor countries is cheap.
Based on what I have heard from others, course content and style depend on the teacher. As I mentioned before, I have had courses where we discuss a lot and give more presentations than in Finland. Some of my friends have had courses where they just listen and take an exam at the end. Personally, I didn’t have any exams, which was good news for me. I had to give many presentations and write a few final papers. Presenting in front of the class in English has taught me a lot and made me more confident about my language and presentation skills. What I have also liked more here than in Finland is that we have had guest speakers from well-known companies. That has been very inspiring and interesting.
I can really recommend Munich as an exchange destination. This is a beautiful city and there is so much to do. Teaching has been high quality and for me this place is very inspiring.
