Olives, Sun and a lot of Fun in Cyprus

My 5 month experience in Nicosia, Cyprus

In the caption are the three words that came to mind while writing this card when remembering my experiences from my exchange semester.

I am very grateful that I got to spend my exchange semester in Nicosia the capital of Cyprus . When first coming to Cyprus in the start of February the temperature change compared to a wintery Finland was very pleasant. However to my amazement there where also days in the start of the year that made me question did I pack enough warm clothes since there where also nights when the temperature went lower than in Helsinki at the same time still however only remaining at a few degrees positive.

Regarding my studies there, I went on an exchange program for business administration and international business. I took mainly business and marketing courses with Philosophy and Sports management and marketing as a extra. I studied in UNIC (university of Nicosia) the only option from TAMK. However I later learned that the capital has had many other universities too. With one being publicly funded and others private.

I would that the premise and school grounds were nice and offered a lot, compared to Finnish school kind of similar. expect from outside very modern and then inside the classrooms were not so modern in my opinion. The teaching in it itself was goo, would say similar level to Finland and the layout of courses depended a lot between teachers and courses. some being more group work focused. others lecture and test based. All in all it was good.

Then on to the leisure side, I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know my fellow Erasmus students and the organized events by the two main organizers ELN (Erasmus life Nicosia) and ESN (Erasmus student network Nicosia) were very nice and they had a lot of different activities and trips.

Also enjoying the beaty of Cyprus nature with cliffs, white beaches and mountains was very nice. A lot of historical and cultural sights are also found on the island. And not to leave out the events and parties found around the island, for example a night out to Ayia Napa is something else and I would recommend going at least once.

The people of Cyprus are very talkative and friendly and in general the whole island has a lovely chill feeling to it, so all in all I would wholeheartedly recommend  spending a exchange semester. I for one enjoyed it very Much.

Yamas!
