The Wonderful Japan

Japan is quite interesting country from a cultural point of view, and having almost not roman letters in signs adds a bit of mystery, but is it still mysterious after learning the language?

The exchange school (APU) has wide variety of courses to pick from, and I wanted to pick something interesting to spice up my schedule. So after picking up some business related courses and Japanese, I picked up a tea ceremony course!  The studying is quite rough since if you study the language as well your timetable is going from 10-18:40 or from 7:00-16:00 so its about 9 hours. Most of my study time in and out of school went to studying the language, it was quite fast paced, having two 100 minute classes four times a week. You are bound to learn and retain some of that knowledge right?

There is cats near the dormitory.

Beppu, the city the school is located in is not that big but it still feels quite busy! My spare time consists mostly of traveling around the surrounding areas and eating all sorts of foods! Being surrounded by mountains was amazing. Following picture is taken from the campus, if your really squint your eyes you can see some buildings in the distance, that is the city of Beppu.

Japanese study system is quite rigid. It feels like going back over 10+ if we compare it to Finnish education system! You go into the class and sit there for 100 minutes just listening to the teacher.  It was not too interactive, quite tiring in fact since after that 100 minutes you have 10 minutes to move to the next class and it might be on the other side of the campus. Campus was amazing, it was on top of a mountain and you could see the whole city!
