I’m here with my two other finnish friends, which has been really nice. We are all at the hopsital for our internships, so we have the same working hours and have also had plenty of time to explore Plzen’s culture and nightlife too, of course.
In our spare time, we have been exploring different local restaurants and bars, as well as enjoying nature. Plzen is a pretty city with old buildings and parks, and I think it will be even more charming once the weather gets warmer. We have also been visiting Germany and Prague.
I have a Czech mentor with me who translates things for me during my internsips at the hospital, and that has been so helpful, since many people here don’t speak English. It was suprising at firts, but now I have gotten used to it.
There are some differences between Czech Republic’s healthcare system and Finland. Here, medication practices are not so strict as they are in Finland. For example, in Finland you need to double-check medications before giving them to a patient. Another thing that has stood out to me is that here in the Czech Republic, most things are still done on paper, for example charting, whereas in Finland everything is done on a computer.
This has been an important experience for me, and I’m sure I have learned many new things and gained unforgettable memories that I will remember for the rest of my life.
